SAG Awards Red Carpet Wrap-Up: Brangelina, Sandra Oh
The Style Winners and Losers Written By Duane Wells Location:
Los Angeles, CA Category: | Daily News | Entertainment | LifeStyle | Like animals trapped in a couture
cage the stars returned to the red carpet at the SAG Awards last night with a ferocity generally reserved for bigger awards
shows. While black reigned supreme on the red carpet thanks to stars like Marg Helgenberger, Nicolette
Sheridan, Ana Ortiz and Tina Fey, the ladies of Desperate Housewives served
up old Hollywood glamour as the best dressed ensemble of the evening. Meanwhile Kate Beckinsale and Vanessa
Williams, both visions in yellow, celebrated bold color on the red carpet in a manner that clearly escaped Grey's
Anatomy’s Sara Ramirez, Tilda Swinton and fashion disaster Sandra Oh-No!
Here’s my play by play analysis of last night’s red carpet fashions:
Okay… so I tried to watch Lisa Rinna and Joey Fatone do the red carpet thing on
TV Guide Channel, but Lisa Rinna’s horrendous leopard print dress made me dizzy and Joey Fatone took up too
much of the screen, so I switched over to E! where a not so glam Giuliana Rancic (something tells me her
dress looked better in person) and a chicly coiffed Debbie Matenopoulus aptly took over the hosting duties
for an apparently ill Ryan Seacrest. Woo-woo…
What’s that? I think I spy the first dud of the evening! It’s Grey's Anatomy’s Sara Ramirez
who, dressed in a magenta Angel Sanchez gown, looks more like the female wrestler Chyna
than a Hollywood star. The stylist who stuffed Ramirez into that swath of ill-conceived couture should be severely sanctioned.
Moving right along…
Just saw Missi Pyle who can’t seem to land a hit TV series, but managed to score a fashion homerun
tonight. She looks fabulous in one of the many black strapless gowns on the red carpet tonight. Others have been worn by Ugly
Betty’s Ana Ortiz and E!’s Debbie Matenopoulus… me thinks I sense a trend, but time will tell.
It’s early yet.
Despite great hair and make-up, Debra Messing, the anti-Starter Wife, underwhelms in a sparkling
gold Oscar De La Renta number that strangely just misses the mark, while an uncharacteristically spectacle-free
Tina Fey makes an exceptionally glamorous turn in a one shouldered black Grecian number courtesy of Alberta
Ferretti. Good show Miss Fey!
On the flip side… What in God’s name is Tichina Arnold wearing? We already know Everybody
Hates Chris but no one could possible love that drab colored multi-tiered mess she’s wearing either. Gag!
Eva Longoria pulls off old Hollywood glamour in Naeem Khan with her usual finesse and
gets a little competition from an ivory clad Becki Newton of Ugly Betty and Marion Cotillard
of La Vie En Rose. Love those tiny divas…petite little glam-bots that they are.
Wow… Teri Hatcher (above right) looks fab in Badgley Mischka. My, my how it pays to be
the face of a major fashion house’s ad campaign! Rebecca Romijn is no slouch either. Hats off to the
styling geniuses behind those upswept hairdo’s and elegant gowns. \\\
(continued)
The winners in the most body appropriate ensembles of the evening category must necessarily go to Grey’s Anatomy’s
Chandra Wilson, whose short asymmetrical Victoria Beckham-inspired wig is as fierce at that
short bedazzled dress she’s wearing (now who says plus size gals can’t pull off horizontal stripes!), Hairspray’s
adorable Nikki Blonsky in shimmering cobalt blue and, of course, Ugly Betty’s America
Ferrara, who dazzles in Monique L’Huillier once again. I guess real women really do have curves.
Hmmm…
Quelle surprise… here comes Marg Helgenberger in another Grecian style black gown followed by this year’s favorite
“it” girl Ellen Page in a short little black dress and Nicolette Sheridan in a simply demure
black strapless Marchesa. I think it’s official… black is back for the red carpet.
Sadly, I am not a fan of Jane Krakowski in that drab olive Catherine Malandrino monstrosity,
but those six inch peau de soie Christian Louboutin heels are capital F-I-E-R-C-E!
As usual, Sandra Oh-No’s wardrobe choice confuses me. She tells Giulana that the billowing bomb of a gown she chose
was made by a designer in Koreatown and that’s probably where she should have left it. Pink bows and yards of slate
grey fabric = blah, blah, blah. Somebody bring me a bucket!
Marcia Cross just walked in wearing a stunning turquoise Monique L’Huiillier showstopper
giving Desperate Housewives the definitive edge in the competition for best dressed ensemble cast.
Oh and here’s Kate Beckinsale in an elegant explosion of flowing yellow fabric crafted by Louisa Beccaria that injects
a little additional color to the red carpet. A true ‘Wonder Woman’. Simply divine she is.
Gag… gag… gag… just glimpsed Cate Blanchett the red carpet queen. She’s wearing
printed Balenciaga and she wins as usual, although I know so many people will disagree with me.
Among the male SAG award show attendees the style winners are definitely Ugly Betty’s Eric
Mabius in Ferragamo, No Country for Old Men’s Javier Bardiem (above) wearing an open
collar with European ease, the always hunky, classically attired James Marsden, my teenage crush Zac
Efron all gussied up and looking polished and papa to be Matthew McConaughey, who takes a gigantic
leap of faith in brown that paid off in sartorial spades (props for taking chances Mr. McConaughey).
Making a highly anticipated late entrance, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt roared onto the
red carpet bringing with them their usual flash and sparkle. Angie is probably going to take a bit of heat for her voluminous
gown but I think she looks fabulously old Hollywood, sort of like a contemporary vision of Elizabeth Taylor
from her heyday. All I can say is va-va voom! (and if she’s hiding a rumored baby bump, she’s made an excellent
choice!).
Hoorah for Tinseltown’s elder glamazons like the uber-elegant Julie Christie in a pantsuit worthy
of a rock star, the monochromatic Michelle Pfeiffer, Glenn Close with upswept hair and form-fitting
couture, Sally Field donning her usual black strapless, Kyra Sedgwick in L’Wren
Scott and Vanessa Williams a vision in yellow Escada—all these gals make walking the red carpet
look as effortless as an early morning stroll through the aisles of Bristol Farms.
Best looking couple of the night (aside from Brangelina)—Josh Brolin and Diane Lane—together
they look like the new face of Hollywood coupledom.
And finally, thank goodness Viggo Mortensen and Tilda Swinton are superior actors because
their unfashionable appearances on the red carpet were anything but memorable this year. Talk about fashion don’ts!
Ouch!
This sure has been fun. One hopes that this won’t be the last red carpet session of the season, but even if it has,
it’s been a style marathon of epic fashion proportion. Bring on the Grammys!

Atlanta Gay Sport's Alliance Holds Year Opening Recruitment
Event Written By Dylan Vox Location: Atlanta, GA Category: | Daily News | This
weekend, the Atlanta Gay Sports Alliance will kick off the year with the first recruitment event of 2008. Eight of Atlanta’s
most successful gay sports organizations will convene and offer an opportunity for those interested in participating in a
sport to come out and meet team representatives.
The Atlanta Gay Sports Alliance is an organization led by several predominately gay and lesbian sports teams in Atlanta,
Georgia that promotes athletic achievement and competition locally, nationally and internationally, provides for social, recreational
and civic activities, and promotes the cooperation between it's member teams and other organizations.
Each quarter they hold a recruitment event to help gain interest from the community in some of it’s many successful
teams. There are eight sports represented by the organization which include the Atlanta Bucks Rugby Team, Atlanta Rainbow
Trout Aquatics (Swimming, Water Polo, Triathlon and Diving)—which took home a gold medal during the international championships
last year, Atlanta Team Tennis Association, Hotlanta Soccer Association, Hotlanta Volleyball Association, Hotlanta Softball
league—which has captured three national titles, Frontrunners Atlanta and the National Flag Football League of Atlanta.
Over 150 participants turned out for last year’s event, and the organizers except even better numbers this year.
The occasion will also feature the announcement of AGSA’s inaugural Sportsperson of the Year award.
“This is a perfect award given our success last year. It not only says job well done for individual accomplishments,
but also a job well done for the community,” Mike Horton, AGSA’s chair explained to Southern Voice.
Finalists Mark Davis, a member of the Hotlanta Volleyball Association, Brian Lazzaro
and his team from the Atlanta Team Tennis Association, and Michelle Martin, a member of the Trout who started
swimming at age 50, were all chosen for their outstanding achievements from submissions made by each of the teams.
The overall winner will be announced at the event, which will be held at Blake’s on the Park on Sunday January 27th
between 5PM-7PM.

When is it Time for Counseling and Facing Intimacy Fears
Ask Angelo Written By Angelo Pezzote, M.A., N.C.C., L.M.H.C.
Location: Los Angeles, CA Category: | Health and Fitness | LifeStyle | Dear Angelo,
I'm in a long term relationship. How does a couple know the difference between when they're having normal relationship
problems and when they might require professional help?
Signed, When To Throw In The Towel
Dear When To Throw In The Towel,
Based on my experience treating couples, here's five quick tips that work well to tell if your relationship is on the rocks
and in need of a life raft:
1.) You fight more than half the time. It's not fighting, but the way you do battle that matters. There's healthy and unhealthy
fighting. All couples argue. But if the disagreements are usually hostile, demeaning, and critical, especially if one of the
partners feels unsafe (emotionally or physically), then you want to seek professional assistance.
2.) If one of the partners is pulling away or withdrawing from the relationship much of the time. This is when communication
is shut down. This is a passive aggressive way to channel anger. A partner could be glued to the Internet, TV, treadmill,
or work instead of talking, working things out, and spending quality time with their partner.
3.) Sexual problems. This could mean no intimacy, no sex, or cheating. If you haven't had sex in more than a few months,
than professional intervention is a good idea.
4.) Emotional problems. This could mean one of the partners has been affected with lowered esteem, a depressed mood, anxiety,
or is abusing a substance as a result of the relationship problems.
5.) When you're staying just for the house, money, pets, family, or other reason.
People avoid couples counseling because they fear finding out their relationship isn't right for them. This reluctance
gets them stuck in an unhealthy situation. Instead, couples need to pursue treatment to find out if their relationship is
fixable or not. If it isn't, then it's healthier to get out of it.
All The Best, Angelo.
Dear Angelo,
I've been dating this guy for awhile and I really like him. Problem is, he wants a commitment, and I'm afraid
to do that. What should I do?
Signed, Waffling
Dear Waffling,
In general, guys are known to be commitment phobes. Giving up personal freedom, having to pass on potential partners, having
unrealistic expectations, and feeling uncertain about "the one," are only a few of the possible reasons. Moreover, American
men are challenged to override manly pressures to be tough, unemotional, and independent (separate) in order to be more relational.
It seems much easier for men to let their hard masculine guard down in the presence of a woman, than it is for two men to
do this with one another. It's not just straight men that face this challenge. Ironically, gay men often freak out when faced
with true intimacy that goes beyond sex with another gay man. Additionally, it can be hard for gay men to meet other gay men
for something meaningful and lasting. So gay men can face real obstacles in forging deep lasting intimacy with one another.
Nevertheless, it is a worthwhile endeavor. For being in a healthy relationship is one of life's treasures.
To triumph, you can choose to confront your fear of intimacy head on.
If you imagine a crowd chasing you, you might be compelled to run away. Problem is, you could be running for the rest of
your life. This leaves you out of control, anxious, fearful, not to mention exhausted. Instead, you could choose to stop,
take your power, and turn around to face the crowd. Once you face them, they will begin to stand down, parting ways for you
to pass through.
It's the same with fear. You can run away from it, or stand and face it down. With all of her years of experience giving
advice, Ann Landers said, "If I were asked to give what I consider the single most useful bit of advice for
all humanity, it would be this: Expect trouble as an inevitable part of life and when it comes, hold your head high, look
it squarely in the eye and say, 'I will be bigger than you. You cannot defeat me.'" So you have to enter into the experience
of the committed relationship in order to learn about and defeat your intimacy fears.

Gay Gaming Move Over, Mass Effect: Here Comes a Real Gay Game
Written By Bryan Ochalla Location: Los Angeles, CA Category: | Daily News | Entertainment |
Looking for a little gay representation in your next video game outing? Forget about the titles that have hogged the headlines
recently—including Mass Effect and its “blink and you’ll miss them” girl-on-girl sex scenes.
Gay gamers looking for a more in-your-face experience should track down the little known Internet offering, Queer Power: Welcome to Queerland, released way back in 2004.
Crafted by Italian design shop la Molleindustria, purveyor of such fine, politically-based Flash games as Orgasm Simulator,
Operation: Pedopriest and Faith Fighter (which boasts the brilliant tagline: “Religious hate has never
been so much fun!”), Queer Power is best compared to arcade-style beat ‘em ups of old like Street
Fighter II—that is, if Street Fighter II had been conjured up by Dr. Ruth.
The differences between the two games are apparent from the start. Players choose to control either a “dick
lover” or “pussy lover” (“other or confused” is an option as well) and are then thrown into
an arena of sorts along with another ambisexual character.
Although battles in Street Fighter II take place in real-world environments, Queer Power’s
backdrops consist of undulating sexual organs. And whereas Capcom’s classic beat ‘em up provided players
with hundreds of moves and poses, developer Paolo Pedercini’s dirty little game offers just a few—nearly
all of which involve one sexual act or another.
Queer Power inverts the fighting game archetypes created by the Street Fighter series in another
was as well: Instead of battling to the death, “opponents” in la Molleindustria’s offering deal out massive
amounts of pleasure until one or both players collapse in orgasm.
Don’t worry if it all sounds a bit strange—it is. In fact, it’s less a game than a pixilated piece of
social commentary. Which is just what the controversial Pedercini was shooting for, of course.
“Game conventions are strongly biased by cultural and ideological values,” the developer says. Overturning
those clichés “is a way to play with players’ expectations and push them to reflect on the stereotypes in commercial
games.”
Having fun isn’t the point of Queer Power—or any of la Molleindustria’s games, for that matter.
“At least not the common concept of fun,” Pedercini says. “The point is to imagine an alternate reality
were everybody is free to ignore their gender roles.”

Coming out with Pro Wrestler Chris
Kanyon (Chris Klucsarits) - Although I officially
came out of the closet as gay to the public in February and March of this year (2006), the process started way before that
in 2001. The tragedy of Sept. 11 inspired me to start my coming out process because of the loneliness I felt on that
day. Soon afterwards in Oct of 2001, I was injured. I thought it might be a good opportunity to take the time
off and get some nationwide publicity while rehabbing my knee to come out of the closet nationally as the first ever ACTIVE

Germanica (If
This Is Love)
To be released soon!
Review by Steven Danko, GayWebSource.com
Disco balls, drag queens and dancing. It's been a while since I've heard a track with such envisioning power. The beet
is strong and the lyrics are stronger. Its a combo of emotion and exhilaration. Can't wait to hear this one on the dance floor.
Look out, Germanica is landing!
Germanica
is without a doubt making a name for himself in the dance world. The soon to be released single "If This Is Love" the follow
up single to "Secrets" has already received airplay on stations all across the nation and is now making its way into international
waters.
Born in 1979, to a German mother and an American father, Germanica
grew up in a house hold surrounded by music lover's and musicians alike, so at the age of 26 when he decided to follow a long
time dream of a career in music it was no surpise to his friends and family. His constant strive for perfection in his works
and hard work ethic have earned him praise from fellow musicians, fans, and critics alike. Always searching for new ways to
expand his knowledge and influence, Germanica has become involved in many side projects including the EDM Report for the Overdrive
Underground at www.odu.fm More recently, he has also taken a residency with the ODU. You can tune in and hear Germanica's
